Development Manager
Mental Health America
The Development Manager will direct, coordinate and provide overall strategic support for the activities necessary to attract donors and gifts to the organization. The Manager will identify major gift prospects, collaborate with other departments in the development of a portfolio of projects for donor/corporate support, and implement cultivation activities for high wealth donors. In addition, the Manager will work closely with the volunteer and board leadership on appropriate fundraising outreach activities. The Manager will also lead the initiative to more effectively use the donor database as an essential tool in the major gifts, membership and overall donor gifts. As a secondary responsibility, the Manager will also strengthen foundation relations by charting strategies, identifying, cultivating, reviewing grant applications, and facilitating a more centralized approach to soliciting support from and working with foundations.
The ideal candidate must be highly creative and self-motivated, with an organized and strategic approach to fundraising. A Bachelors' degree along with 5+ years fundraising experience, preferably at a healthcare/medical organization, is required. Knowledge of fundraising databases, ETechnology, PowerPoint, Excel and superior communications skills is required. Experience with fundraising databases such as Raiser's Edge preferred. Statewide Consumer Network Coordinator
Mental Health America
This is a full-time position, with the National Technical Assistance Center for Mental Health Consumer and Family Networks, based with Mental Health America in Alexandria, VA. This role is critical to this SAMHSA funded initiative. The coordinator will work closely with and report to the Associate Director of Consumer TA. Position will be responsible for supporting, scheduling and maintaining center resources and TA to grantees as well as other consumer organizations. Accordingly, the successful candidate must be highly organized, able to coordinate multiple tasks and priorities and work with on-site and off-site staff successfully. Applicants must be mental health consumers with knowledge of mental health and substance abuse fields, with preference given to applicants with an undergraduate degree. Experience providing and/or coordinating training and TA is recommended.
Position is based in northern Virginia, some travel required. Salary range for position is in the high 50s, along with benefits and committed and dynamic team members. Commissioner
Kentucky Department for Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Addiction Services
The Kentucky Department for Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Addiction Services is seeking a Commissioner. This position is located in Frankfort, Kentucky and reports directly to the Secretary of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
Responsibilities: The Commissioner is responsible for policy making and the administration of all programs within the department which include mental health, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse. The Commissioner has direct oversight of a $465,000,000 budget, 2,500 staff and 17 facilities including; 3 Psychiatric Hospitals, 10 Intermediate Care Facilities for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/MR), 2 Nursing Care Facilities, 1 Forensic Psychiatric Hospital and 1 Residential Substance Abuse Program. These facilities have an average daily census of 1,200 clients and will serve over 9,000 clients in SFY 2009. The current census falls between 30-200 individuals. Responsibilities also include collaborating and partnering in the planning and delivery of services with the state’s 14 private, not for profit, mental health and intellectual disabilities regional boards. All activities of the Department include the assurance of quality improvement and oversight of the funding provided for program administration and service.
Desired Attributes: Candidates for this position will possess a passion for moving individual programs toward consumer and family driven, community-based and recovery oriented systems of care, services and support.
Desired Qualifications: The position requires executive management experience, preferably in the field of public mental health, intellectual disabilities and/or substance abuse. A graduate degree in a discipline related to mental health, and/or business, health care or public administration is preferred. Candidates should have demonstrated leadership skills and abilities in planning, organizational behavior and innovation. Candidates should have demonstrated skills in working effectively with consumers, advocacy groups, contractors, legislators and other agencies.

Consultant
Mental Health America of Hawai'i
Mental Health America of Hawai`i (MHA) is seeking to contract with a consultant to help manage its Military Initiative. This will focus on the needs of returning military and their families by convening an Advisory Task Force to identify mental health, social, and employment-related issues facing returning National Guard, Reserves, and their families; convening "town hall" community meetings to address concerns relating to all returning soldiers and their families; and creating an action plan for Hawai`i to address the unmet needs.
Experience in translating discussion into recommendations and policies into action/implementation needed; knowledge of military desirable; understanding of state and federal policy development required.
Compensation: $30,000 available for one year contract.

Program Analyst III

ESI, an employee-owned government contractor, is seeking a Program Analyst III to support the Division of Prevention, Traumatic Stress, and Special Programs (DPTSSP) of the Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) within the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
DPTSSP has adopted a public health, population-based approach to its work, building on the core message that "mental health is everyone's responsibility." This work in public health promotes the use of research-based approaches that support recovery and enhance resilience. It also promotes the prevention of behavioral problems, suicide, bullying, and youth violence. DPTSSP's work emphasizes proactive approaches that help prevent mental health problems from developing or mitigating those that do occur¬¬-especially among children and youth.
This position works onsite at the SAMHSA office in Rockville, MD and will focus on the Spring 2009 Institute of Medicine (IOM) report, Preventing Mental, Emotional, and Behavioral Disorders among Young People: Progress and Possibilities and how it might serve as a roadmap for future DPTSSP initiatives. It will also include performing various analytical functions necessary to support the goals and mission of the IOM report in relation to those of SAMHSA/CMHS/DPTSSP.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Conducts a thorough analysis of the contents of the IOM report;
- Compares the mission, goals, and activities of SAMHSA/CMHS/DPTSSP to those of the IOM report;
- Makes strategic recommendations for how SAMHSA/CMHS/DPTSSP can help meet the objectives and further the mission of the IOM report with special emphasis on mental health promotion and why it is important;
- Meets with Federal Project Officers and other stakeholders to develop and implement agreed upon recommendations and initiatives;
- Assists with the development of social marketing and issue positioning strategies related to the recommendations and initiatives;
- Prepares related recommendations and strategies for presentation to Federal partners and other stakeholders; and
- Presents recommendations and strategies at designated meetings, including out-of-town travel (approximately 8 days per year), as needed.
This is a not an entry-level position. Listed skills and education are essential.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Psychology, Psychiatry, Public Health or other related fields
- Minimum of 5-6 years of related program experience in the Federal environment.
- Doctoral degree in Psychology, Psychiatry, Public Health or other related fields
- Minimum of 2-3 years of related program experience in the Federal environment.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of Federal, State, and community-based behavioral health programs and service delivery systems.
- Demonstrated experience with behavioral health-related social marketing and campaign design and implementation.
- Demonstrated understanding of Federal behavioral and public health agencies and stakeholders.
- Excellent writing skills and the ability to develop complex, multi-phase strategic plans and action steps.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

This position can be a 12-month full-time position or a part-time position for a longer term.
